Cardiac care goes on rails |
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Bangalore June 07, 2008, 3:38 IST |
Well, that could be a reality if consumer appliances manufacturer BPL Limited succeeds in clinching a deal with the Indian Railways to install defibrillators — equipment that delivers a safe level of energy output required to revive a person who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest — on trains in the country.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, BPL Healthcare COO A Vijay Simha said, "We are holding discussions with the chief medical officer of the Railways in New Delhi. These defibrillators are ideal for installation on trains as well as railway stations as they can save many lives that are lost because of lack of timely intervention in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest."
