A Japanese facility for elderly sufferers of dementia is named after a Danish nurse
A new daytime facility for elderly residents suffering from dementia in Omuta, Japan will be named after a Danish nurse, Mirjam Gade, who has assisted putting the project together.
'Dementia, like other mental illnesses, has been taboo in Japan, and elderly suffering from the sickness have been hidden away in hospitals or looked after by family members,' said Gade, who is a nurse in an elderly psychiatric care unit in southern Denmark.
The new centre will primarily act as a respite facility during the day for elderly people with dementia.
